Hi everyone,
I know I’ve been away for a few weeks now! With the conclusion of my 2nd-year med school exams I decided to relax a little bit more since it was the most I’ve ever crammed before. Fortunately, this went very well and I’ve maintained my perfect GPA.
Since I’m still quite young I’ve spent most of my life being a generalist.

Now, this is an idea that I started to really embrace coming into Year 10 where I started to begin focusing on the online business I had at the time. One of the great things about becoming an entrepreneur is that you need to learn how to problem solve in a very vast range of domains.
One of the biggest advantages I’ve had is tech experience, a hallmark of working online. However, it’s by no means a requirement.
In recent years I’ve been expanding this out; learning about learning, recent neuroscience, psychology, economics, medicine, sales & marketing, etc.
From Year 10 to now I’ve been more of a generalist and someone who can do a lot of skills well. It’s obviously quite handy.
However, I feel like it’s time for me focus on becoming a specialist in something. One of the main things I’m looking into at the moment is becoming a better educator & teacher. After all, this is one of the reasons I enjoy creating YouTube videos so much. It’s one of the main things that always gives me fulfilment & purpose.
I’ll let you know how this goes as I begin working towards upskilling myself to become an expert in helping people learn. But as I continue to do this, I’m still going to keep expanding my generalist skills because who knows, I may end up wanting to become a specialist in something else.
So I think it’s useful to consider, do you want to be a generalist or a specialist?
